CBIRD Research day

Mar 26, 2026

A big milestone for the Rana Lab, our first big symposium participation at Center for Brain Injury Recovery & Discovery Research Day!

The Center for Brain Injury Recovery & Discovery hosted its annual Research Day at The Ohio State University, and it marked a huge milestone for the Rana Lab, our first major internal OSU symposium presenting data generated from the lab! The meeting brought together researchers, clinicians, and trainees working across brain and spinal cord injury research, highlighting the incredibly collaborative environment being built at Ohio State.

I could not be prouder of this team. Matt was selected for a trainee podium talk, representing our lab on the main stage, while both Kailash and Dhruva took home undergraduate research poster awards! Watching our trainees confidently present their science and engage with the broader research community was one of those moments that really makes all the hard work of starting a new lab feel worth it.

One of the best parts of the meeting was reconnecting with old friends and colleagues. I especially loved catching up with my graduate school friend, Jonathan Calvert, who has now launched his own lab at University of California, Davis. Jonathan’s work sits at the intersection of neuroengineering, neuromodulation, and spinal cord injury recovery, and his group is doing some incredibly exciting and impactful science in the neural rehabilitation space.

Meetings like CBIRD Research Day are such an important reminder of why interdisciplinary science matters. It was inspiring to see trainees, clinicians, engineers, and neuroscientists all sharing ideas under one roof, and we are so excited for what lies ahead for the Rana Lab at Ohio State.
