Isabel Oliveira

Undergraduate Researcher
My name is Isabel Oliveira, and I am a second-year undergraduate student at The Ohio State University pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience with a specialization in Computational Neuroscience. I joined the Rana Lab in early 2025, and it has been one of the most meaningful parts of my undergraduate experience.
My research interests include respiratory neuroscience and neuromuscular disorders as they relate to breathing. This past summer, I completed a research internship at the University of São Paulo in a laboratory studying the neural circuits that control breathing and how changes in neural activity influence respiratory and behavioral responses. This experience strengthened my interest in understanding how neurological disease and injury disrupt breathing. Outside the lab, I enjoy playing golf and tennis, traveling, reading, and learning languages.
